Essentials for a Young Ballerina’s Performance

Costume: When performing, the young ballerina’s costume should consist of the standard leotard, tights and ballet slippers. Additionally, a tutu or performance dress can be substituted or added depending on the dance style of the performance.
Hair: The most important essential of the hairstyle for a performance is that it is neat and tidy. The young ballerina should practice to see what hairstyle fits them best. To make a neat and round bun, a bun-maker or hair doughnut can be used. If the young ballerina has short hair, hair extensions can be used to make the bun look fuller. Using hair spray and hair gel will keep the bun in place and make it less flyway. For some performances, a ribbon, headdress or tiara may be added, but it should be fixed in place so it doesn’t fall off during the performance.
Makeup: For a young ballerina’s performance, the dancer’s makeup should be natural and not too heavy. A little bit of makeup on the eyes, lips and cheeks makes the dancer’s face clear under the bright lights.
